H-class VH630 storage system

10 GbE Tiered Storage for Superior Virtualization
The VH630 is the industry’s premier storage system for enterprise-wide server and desktop virtualization. With quad 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports, the VH630 offers 13x more bandwidth than clustered systems, enabling greater VM consolidation with less hardware, less power, fewer cables, and superior VM performance. FlexScale technology enhances consolidation by offering SATA, SAS, and SSD drives, all on one system. Unified iSCSI, NFS, and CIFS support and certification with 10 GbE NICs and switches simplify deployment while giving users the flexibility to choose the optimal storage protocol for their virtualization solution. Unlike clustered systems, the VH630 scales up to 144 TB while reducing energy and cost per TB as capacity is added. 10 GB of cache and a 140 Gbps internal architecture provide the performance needed to maximize your investment in virtualization solutions.

Overview Benefits Specifications
Next-generation Architecture for Scalability & Speed
The VH630 combines 10 Gigabit Ethernet and SAS to deliver 13 times more bandwidth than clustered iSCSI arrays. The FlexScale architecture isolates server-to-storage traffic from the LAN onto a low-latency SAS interconnect, eliminating oversubscription and bottlenecks common in Gigabit-based iSCSI arrays and enabling applications to run at their peak. The four SAS links support up to twelve SM120 expansion modules for growth up to 144 TB. Policy-based caching with an impressive 10 GB of dedicated cache accelerate storage response time and maximize cache hits for the most performance-critical applications.

10 Gigabit Ethernet for Superior Server Virtualization
Successful virtual computing with VMware ESX, Citrix XenServer, and Microsoft Hyper-V demands 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Dozens of virtual machines can quickly overload a Gigabit-based iSCSI array, forcing users to trunk ports (increasing complexity), purchase more storage nodes (increasing cost), or scale back consolidation plans (reducing efficiency). The VH630's quad 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports offer redundant, high-bandwidth storage networking that can support dozens of servers and hundreds of virtual machines on one system. With 10 Gigabit Ethernet now just ¼ the cost of Fibre Channel, enterprises can multiply application performance while retaining the familiarity of Ethernet networking.

Unified iSCSI SAN and NAS for Simple IT Operations
The VH630 offers unified iSCSI SAN and NAS (NFS and CIFS) protocol support, seamlessly presented on one system with one intuitive interface. iSCSI-only alternatives force you to purchase isolated NAS gateways that increase cost and complexity. With the VH630, enterprises can centralize more data on one system, increasing efficiency and eliminating unnecessary storage hardware and software purchases.

SATA, SAS, and SSD Drives for Unmatched Tiered Storage
The VH630 can be expanded with any blend of SATA, SAS, and SSD drives, even within the same enclosure, to efficiently optimize storage based on speed, density, power, and cost. Built-in storage virtualization with RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and JBOD support allows IT administrators to create flexible pools, assigning mission-critical applications to premium SAS or SSD storage and nearline and archival storage requirements to high-density, low-power SATA tiers.

All-inclusive Easy-to-use Software and Quick Setup
Powered by Nimbus’ comprehensive HALO storage operating system, the VH630 provides robust data protection and capacity provisioning with the simplicity of Web-based management. Integrated features include point-in-time snapshots, synchronous mirroring, asynchronous and continuous remote replication, volume cloning, and automatic storage health monitoring, without the cost and headaches of incremental license fees. Advanced reporting tools provide email and SNMP notification, real-time gauges and historical charts of key metrics, and self-healing capabilities.

Green Technology and Rugged Fault-tolerance Features
The VH630 meets new green computing standards by consuming up to 70% less power – as low as 19 watts per TB of data managed – than separate SAN and NAS devices or clustered storage arrays. With 80% fewer components and 30% lower operating temperature than traditional arrays, the VH630 generates less heat and vibration, reducing energy costs and improving drive reliability. Redundant power supplies, fans, 10 GbE controllers, and software boot images are standard. A cluster option adds a secondary director node for a complete NSPOF (no-single-point-of-failure) configuration.

FlexScale Architecture for Cost-correct Expansion
The VH630, with FlexScale technology, makes storage expansion affordable. Unlike clustered iSCSI arrays, which require purchasing completely new systems just to add capacity, the VH630 scales using fully-redundant storage expansion modules (SEMs) that leverage the system's impressive bandwidth and processing power. This reduces cost per TB as more storage is added while increasing performance with more spindles or solid state drives.
